Tammy looked at the map. She put one finger on San Francisco and the other on New York. She started to do the math and wondered about the ratio for distance required to a long distance relationship. After school, she watched a lot of her friends relationships crumble because each person moved to different parts on the map. Though they vowed to stay committed over time one person or both grew distant. She theorized that there must be a right distance to ensure success and failure. But as she plotted out relationships on the map, the data did not make sense. Tammy was determined to use an analytical approach to answer this question before she and Dan came to this crossroad in their relationship. But no matter how much she looked, the data just did not add up.
