Moving forward, just not sure where we're going, but at least we're having a swell time when we do it.
Several months ago I recall hearing a piece on NPR (at least I think it was the Race Card Project) about how over time public sentiment on race issues can change. On it, an African American gentleman had gone to his grandson’s school and run into a Caucasian parent with the same last name. It was a unique last name and when they began talking, it was easily shared that her ancestors had likely owned his. There was no malice or accusation. He did not tell her she owed him, nor did she apologize. They were obviously different people than their forefathers and not responsible for the events that occurred so long before. The two became friends, researching their family line, and in fact proving that what they surmised was true.
